Grand Canyon AZ to Carlsbad NM

We slept well, recovering from our long hike experience. When I got up in the morning my legs didn’t want to work, and they stiffen up again at any opportunity. We packed camp and headed out for a ten hour drive to Carlsbad NM. With 300+ miles yet to drive in our 600+ miles for …

Painted Desert/Petrified Forest Hikes

Holbrook AZ to Page AZ Day five of our trip, and we are getting close to our main stop, the Grand Canyon. When we went to bed last night the wind was blowing hard, making me worry about something falling from the tree overhead. Sometime after midnight rain came, but not the lightning that had …

Rio Grande River, Petroglyph National Monument, Continental Divide, Prairie Dogs, and The Painted Desert/Petrified Forest

Albuquerque NM to Holbrook AZ Packing gets faster every day. We had everything put away in 30-40 minuets this morning. Yay for teamwork! The Rio Grande river flows on the west side of Albuquerque so after a stop at Walmart we went down to a small park to see the river. It was beautiful, flowing …

Vicksburg MS to Wichita Falls TX We spent the night at a very pleasant campground a short distance from the historic part of Vicksburg. Vicksburg National Military Park and the USS Cairo

Pensacola, FL to Vicksburg, MS An early start got us to The Vicksburg National Military Park around 1:30. Our car is so loaded down with gear that we are bottoming out on bumps…a very unnerving clunk that catches us by surprise now and again. The siege of Vicksburg was a key victory that gave the …

And We’re Off!

Orlando, FL to Pensacola, FL

The first leg of the trip went great, other than missing a turn or two. (Why haven’t we reached I-10 yet? Um…we did…a while ago. Oops.) A bit of rain cooled the summer heat and made for a pleasant snooze if you were lucky enough to be riding instead of driving. A warm welcome from friends made this evening special. Let the adventures begin!
