Grand Canyon
Today’s post will be short because I have to get to bed. WE GOT A PERMIT FOR BRIGHT ANGEL CAMPGROUND!!! More about that later. We spent the day driving along the canyon rim Road stopping at Overlook points.
We also Stopped at that to see you o stopped at the Tusayan ruins the ruins of an Indian village.
Another overlook…
I have been trying to get permits to camp at the bottom of the canyon or to stay at Phantom Ranch. Today at the back country information center we were able to get a permit for bright angel campground. We will be getting up at 3:15 in the morning to catch the 4 o’clock bus to the Trail head. To have a successful hike we need to be off the trail before it gets hot. We will be spending the night and hiking out early the next morning. Pray that all goes well and we have a fun experience.
After getting her permit we went over to the bright angel lodge to see if we could buy meals at Phantom Ranch to avoid having to carry down dinner. We were able to do so, so we then spent some time looking around bright angel lodge. In their little museum was a display about the Harvey girls. They were young women who went to work at Mr. Harvey’s restaurants along the Santa Fe train routes. The job provided them a respectable good paying work in a time when that was hard to find for women. It also provided young women an adventure.
I will probably not be posting anything until after we get back from camping. I hope to have lots of pictures and stories!
